IXL NOBLE EXPRESS

U.S. National Championship Show October, 2011

The number of sons and daughters of IXL Noble Express competing at the national level continues to grow and succeed dramatically. At the 2011 Scottsdale Show, there were 14 successful IXL Noble Express offspring, and at the 2011 U.S. Nationals, just eight months later, there were 21. Between them they won an impressive four national championships and two reserves, as well as 31 Top Ten awards. Most interesting is the fact that nine horses, almost half of the group, took awards in more than one class. These horses work very hard when they take on more than one class or division at Nationals. It takes special endurance and strength to do well in several classes at this level. Champions that are strong enough to remain sound and endure can continue on through years of performance from open to amateur to junior rider competition thereby building their sire’s reputation.

Those IXL Noble Express offspring garnering the most awards at the U.S. Nationals this year included Expressamo (x Mystic Bey V), National Champion Pleasure Driving and Informal Combination and a Top Ten in the English Pleasure AAO 40 & Over. Expressamo began his winning 2011 season with Top Ten awards in both the English Pleasure open and Amateur at the Scottsdale Show in February. A Noble Cause (x Sweet Summer Fire) was also a U.S. National Champion in October, taking the winning red rose garland in the Pleasure Driving AAO and a Top Ten in the open as well. WD Noble Ladd+/ (x Gifted JG) also started the new year well at Scottsdale, winning both the HA Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse class and the Championship at that show and then closing the season by taking the 2011 U.S. National Champion HA Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse title.

Reserve national champions at the 2011 U.S. Nationals included LLC Mr Noble (x Trifirette), who took reserve honors in the Informal Combination behind his paternal half-brother Expressamo and a Top Ten in the Pleasure Driving Championship as well. Proteus BPA+ (x Summer Romance) was a 2011 Reserve National Champion in HA Hunter Pleasure Select AATR and a Top Ten in the AAO Maturity. In the ranks of the multi-Top Ten award winners were Berry Expressive (x Im Berry Wild V) with Top Ten in HA English Pleasure AAO 40 & Over and the HA English Pleasure AAO Maturity. Expressly Bella (x Colorado Sage), took a Top Ten in both the open English Pleasure Championship and the AAO 18-39, FS Thatsa Cold Shot+ (x Highpoints Dirty Dancer) took Top Ten awards in the HA English Show Hack and the HA Country English AAO 36-54, Noble Aphroditie (x EA Aphroditie) was Top Ten in the English Pleasure open and AAO 18-39 championships, and Noble Grace (x Gina Afire) was a Top Ten in both the English Pleasure AAO 40 &Over and the AAO Maturity.

Additional Top Ten awards at the U.S. Nationals included A Noble Pass (x SA Passing Fancy), Top Ten Show Hack AAO; BL Expression (x Rumina Afire), Top Ten English Pleasure Junior Horse; HCA Crimson Express+ (x Dream Copy PHF), Top Ten HA Country Pleasure Driving; KD Expression Heir (x Eliza LA), Top Ten Country English Pleasure AAO Maturity; Noble Renaissance (x Radiant Afire), Top Ten English Pleasure AAO 18-39; Nobleistic (x GW Im Penny), Top Ten English Pleasure AAO 18-39; Nobles Angel (x Afires Expose), Top Ten Hunter Pleasure 18-35 AAO; Nobles Diva (x Quintara Afire), Top Ten Pleasure Driving; Nobles Rhapsody N Red (x Blues in the Night), Top Ten Country English Pleasure Select AATR; The Midnight Express (x Susanke), Top Ten Hunter Pleasure, and Van Helsing BPA (x Shes All That), Top Ten HA Futurity Halter Gelding.

AFIRE BEY V
Statistical Synopsis at the 2011 U.S. National Championship Show

At 26 years young Afire Bey V continued to lead the way at the 2011 U.S. National Championship show. There were 45 sons and daughters of Afire Bey V competing successfully at the Nationals in Tulsa the end of October. Together they accumulated 59 Top Ten awards, 8 national championships and 7 reserve national championships.  Of these winners, 24 were purebreds and 21 were Half-Arabians.

This year’s national champions included both seasoned performers and newcomers to the rose blankets and trophies. Americanbeautie+// (x Kelly Le Brock) has been one of Afire Bey V’s top winning show horse daughters for many years.  At the U.S. Nationals this year she won her thirteenth national championship, this one in HA Country English Pleasure, and her fourth reserve national championship, this one in HA Country English Pleasure AAO 36-54. Compare this to a first time U.S. National’s appearance for Winning Afire+// (x Win Me Ribbons) and young Conley Driediger from Canada. Winning Afire+// has been showing at the Canadian and Youth National shows and winning Top Ten awards since 2007. This was the pair’s first trip to the U.S. National Championships, inspired no doubt by their 2011 Canadian national championship in Show Hack and Canadian reserve national championship in Country English Pleasure AAO 18-39. At the U.S. Nationals they were National Champion Show Hack AAO and Reserve National Champion Show Hack in the open.  MWF Benedykt+// (x Bold Love) was reserve national champion Show Hack AAO (following Winning Afire+//) and was a Top Ten in the Show Hack open as well. It was the second year at the Nationals for Defying Gravity RGS (x MA Nobella). Last year the chestnut, five-year-old gelding was Top Ten in both the English Pleasure AAO Maturity and the English Pleasure Junior Horse. This year, Defying Gravity RGS stepped up to the plate and knocked a few out of the park, taking roses in the English Pleasure Junior Horse at both Canada and the U.S. Nationals. It was a first trip ever to the U.S. Nationals for Emperors Fire (x Ritida) the latest in a grand family of national winners.  Emperors Fire won the 2001 U.S. National Champion HA English Pleasure Futurity. His full sister, Eves Fire (x Ritida) was 2010 Reserve National Champion HA English Futurity and 2011 Reserve National Champion HA English Pleasure AAO, as well as a Top Ten this year in the HA English Pleasure Junior Horse. Their full brother, Adams Fire, did not show at this year’s nationals but won the HA English Futurity National Championship in 2005. Adams Fire currently has 11 national championships and two reserves to his (and his sire’s) credit. It was also a first U.S. Nationals visit for Simply Afire (x Simply The Best). Virtually undefeated in Class A competition, this handsome eight-year-old stepped up to take a Top Ten in the open Country English Pleasure and was 2011 U.S. National Champion in the Country English Pleasure AAO 18-35.

Another Half-Arabian show horse with a championship at this year’s national show was Fabulaire (x Money’s Steller Performer). A Youth National Champion in HA Native Costume JT 14-17 last summer, Fabulaire won the open HA Native Costume at the 2011 U.S. Nationals. Five-times Top Ten and the Canadian Reserve National Champion HA Pleasure Driving in 2002, Guided+ (x The Small Town Blues) was 2011 U.S. National HA Pleasure Driving Champion. Three full siblings to Guided+ took Top Ten awards at the 2011 U.S. Nationals: Glorify (The Small Town Blues), Top Ten HA Park AAO, Good Vibrations (x The Small Town Blues), Top Ten HA Country Pleasure Driving AAO and Guardian Angel (The Small Town Blues), Top Ten HA Country English Pleasure AAO 18-35. A major Afire Bey V champion, Pheobe Afire (x Primroza) was the 2011 U.S. National English Pleasure AAO 18-39. It was the fourteen-year-old chestnut mare’s fifth national or reserve national championship at Youth or U.S. Nationals in the English Pleasure division.

Although a number of Afire Bey V’s 2011 U.S. national champions were also reserve national champions, there were several others that claimed reserve honors as well. Afire Phantom BF (x Clover Hill’s Blazing Luck) was 2011 U.S. National Reserve Champion HA Country English Pleasure Select AATR and a Top Ten in the HA Country English Pleasure AAOTR 18-35. Romeo Afire (x Flames Lullaby) was the 2011 U.S. Reserve National Champion Country English Pleasure AAO 36-54 and Starbucks BF (x Haute Chocolate) was the 2011 U.S. Reserve National Champion in the HA Country English Junior Horse Championship. Romeo Afire’s full sibling Afireandbrimstone SCA (x Flames Lullaby) was a 2011 Top Ten in both the open Country English Pleasure and the Country English Pleasure AAO 55 & Over.

In sixteen of the National English division classes, two or more Afire Bey V offspring took Top Ten or better awards. In the Half-Arabian English Pleasure Futurity the champion and four of the Top Ten winners were sired by Afire Bey V. Today, it is rare to find a national class in the English division without the presence of an outstanding Afire Bey V champion son or daughter.

AFIRE BEY V

Statistical Update December, 2010
by Christy Eagen

What a pleasure to update the statistics for Afire Bey V on the occasion of his 25th year. He will be 26 on July 26, 2011 and is in the final decade of his historic rise to fame as the All-Time Leading Arabian Horse Sire, both in numbers of offspring and in Champions and National Winners.  Sired by Huckleberry Bey (Bay El Bey x Taffona by Raffon), out of the *Bask daughter, Autumn Fire (x Sparklingburgundy by Fadjur), Afire Bey V has no rivals at this moment in time and, though his sons are proving to be magnificent sires, none of us will see one rise to his extraordinary level and challenge his amazing lifetime record.

Afire Bey V is the ultimate example of the Arabian breed’s most successful English-type bloodline cross, Bay El Bey and *Bask. Afire Bey V’s paternal grand dam is a daughter of U.S. National Champion English Pleasure and Open Halter National Champion Stallion, Raffon. His dam, Autumn Fire is by *Bask, the leading all-time sire of Arabian champions and a National Champion in Park and Stallion Halter. Autumn Fire was a leading producer of national winners during her lifetime and her dam, Sparklingburgundy, a daughter of the charismatic multi-national winner Fadjur, was a champion in Park, Formal Driving and Roadster.

Bred by Varian Arabians and owned by Maroon Fire Arabians for all but the first five years of his life, Afire Bey V had his first taste of fame as a four-year-old when he won the Region 13 English Pleasure Junior Horse Championship in 1989. By 1992 he had switched from English Pleasure to Park and was a 1992 U.S. National Top Ten Park Horse. But it is truly as a sire that he has become a legend in his time.

Ten years after his birth, Afire Bey V’s first offspring stepped up to national notoriety and made a serious impression at the 1995 U.S. National Championships.  Afire Lullaby (x Flames Lullaby by Bask Flame) was National Champion Pleasure Driving and Can Can Dancer (x Canadette by Al-Marah Canadius) was National Champion English Pleasure Junior Horse. Both were just four-year-olds.

At the end of 2010 there are 1,233 registered Arabians and Half-Arabians sired by Afire Bey V. Only a handful of Arabian stallions in the history of the breed have come close to this number. Actually, only a few have topped the 1,000 foals mark period. Of these there are now 484 purebred champions (Class A Champions, reserves, Regional and national winners). There have been 224 purebred national winners at the Youth, Canadian, Sport Horse and U.S. National Championship shows, and of these 113 have won national and/or reserve national championships. Between all of the national winners they have accumulated 198 national championships, 155 reserve national championships and 1071 national Top Tens. That’s a total of 1,424 national wins, with 1118 in the English divisions. In addition to their total dominance of the English division, Afire Bey V offspring have solid national wins in Show Hack, Halter, Native Costume, Hunter Pleasure and Ladies Side Saddle English, especially Show Hack. There are also major national Afire Bey V winners in Reining and Competitive Trail. For the purposes of this statistical report, only the English Pleasure, Country English Pleasure and Driving divisions are being counted as ”English” divisions. Even so, an amazing 79% of all Afire Bey V purebred offspring national wins have been in these English divisions.

Among the Half-Arabians sired by Afire Bey V there are 123 champions (Class A Champions, reserves, Regional and national winners). Of these, 75 are national winners, including 39 national and/or reserve national champions. They have won a total of 88 national championships and 52 reserve national championships, as well as 360 Top Ten awards for a total of 500 national wins. The Half-Arabian percentage for English competition wins is 65%, a figure lower than the purebreds. This reflects the exceptional success that the Afire Bey V Half-Arabian offspring have had in the national Halter division. Afire Bey V’s Half-Arabian offspring group is considerably smaller than the purebreds. An impressive number of the mares bred to him for Half-Arabian foals have between two and four champion or national winning get sired by Afire Bey V. For example, Fe Phi Fo Fum has five national winners sired by Afire Bey V, four of them national and/or reserve national champions. Regardless of the eminent records posted by these outstanding non-Arabian mares, all of their “stats” pale beside the queen of the Afire Bey V “brides” … The Small Town Blues. The Small Town Blues has produced 14 champions with Afire Bey V, 12 of them national winners, and ten of those national or reserve national champions. One of these national winners, Good As It Gets, is among the best of the champion Half-Arabian Afire Bey V offspring. Good As It Gets is an eight-time national champion and once reserve in Halter and has a lifetime record of 20 national awards in that division.

The lineage of Afire Bey V is a bloodline that endows exceptional strength, character and longevity. Afire Bey V’s three most successful purebred offspring are still on the road showing. Just seven years younger than his sire, Whiskey Glow+// is Afire Bey V’s leading winning offspring. Still a formidable contender, Whiskey Glow has 15 national championships, 11 reserve national championships and 52 national Top Ten awards.  His most recent championship was at the 2010 U.S. National show where he was named National Champion Native Costume open and Reserve National Champion Native Costume AAO. Casablanca Afire+// is Afire Bey V’s second leading national winner with 14 national championships, ten reserves and 49 national Top Tens for a grand total of 73 national awards. Casablanca Afire is nine years younger than his sire and was a 2010 Youth National Top Ten in English Show Hack, both JOTR 17 & Under and JTR 14-17. MWF Benedykt+// is the youngest of the three at fifteen and has ten national championships, four reserves and 24 national Top Tens to his credit.  Though Afire Bey V has sired far more purebreds than Half-Arabians, some of his part bred offspring are among his most celebrated national winners. The extraordinary show horses Adams Fire and Americanbeautie immediately come to mind, the former with 11 national championships and two reserves, and the latter with ten national championships and three reserves.

Afire Bey V has proven to be an amazing cross for *Bask. The vast majority of his champions feature that legendary sire in their pedigrees. Some are granddaughters of *Bask or great granddaughters through stallions like Cognac, The Chief Justice, Zodiac Matador and Pask. The Bay El Bey son Barbary also stands out as a recurrent maternal grandsire.
At the end of 2010, adding together his Half-Arabian and purebred offspring credentials, Afire Bey V  is the sire of 607 champions (Class A champions and reserves, Regional and national winners), among them 299 national winners. These national winners have taken 1,924 national awards (1,441 in English divisions or 75%). His total national winning offspring include 152 national and/or reserve national champions that have accumulated 286 national championships and 207 reserve national championships.

When a stallion has sired as many offspring as Afire Bey V and nears the close of his breeding career, there is ultimately little that can be hidden from the statistics. With this magnitude of numbers the truth is evident and it becomes obvious just exactly how well a stallion has succeeded as a sire. Even great sire percentages fall into the thirties and forties when comparing total number of get to champions at the conclusion of their lives. Taking into consideration the fact that almost 100 Afire Bey V get are too young to participate at the national level and another 50 to 100 are just beginning their performance careers under saddle, lends even more impact to this amazing stallion’s sire statistics. No matter how you look at the numbers, between 50 and 55% of Afire Bey V’s offspring are champions, 25 to 28% are national winners and 12 to 14% are national and reserve national champions.

Afire Bey V’s statistical record and legend will continue to grow and impress all of us for the next few decades and beyond. The important question right now is … who among us will be clever enough to breed to this legendary sire over the next few years before the opportunity slips through our fingers forever?
